He was not called in for nothing. On that day, at the right time he was called in to report on what had happened. His first answer was to say nothing because nothing was not the truth. This time he had to come up with a real excuse to keep them from revealing the secret he had been keeping for so long. The fall was hard he said, with my bike I fell real hard and this bruise is thanks to my fall.
She who had him each day in class asked but what about the other bruises, the ones they could see. He answered that he helped him along the house and boys gets hurt sometimes. They looked at him as if to say do not protect but he knew he had to with respect. He was not always so he told himself, he just missed her after all these years. He loved him, not people asking questions when they already knew what his father does when he is drunk.
He had a blanket to sleep on and bread to eat, that was all he really needed but they asked the questions at the right time on that day as the police took his father away. There he was skipping from home to home till his age had come and care took him in.
Abuse will never be something he would have around again from now to then. His children will know the truth about what his father did to stand as a warning to their children and those after. If it was not for those people at his school ,as much as he loved his father, what would he have done to survive the pain of fists to come?
Speak out and be heard.
J.R this is so moving. Tears flooded my face as I pictured your words. It is so sad how many children don't get the chance to speak out. I guess there aren't enough people asking the right questions.
